Moor Trails
Explore and enjoy the Eastern Moors and surrounding area on foot, by following our walking trails. They start from each of the main car parks at Curbar Gap, Shillito Wood and Birchen. There are three trails from each - a short (pink), medium (purple) and long (green). Trail cards will in time, be available for collection from dispensers in our car parks, and for now are available as downloads, by clicking the images below.

From Birchen Edge car park
1. Three Ships Saunter
Distance & time: 2.5km, 45 mins approx
Description: Explore above and below striking gritstone edges, amble through silver birch woodlands and absorb breathtaking moorland landscapes.
Terrain: A gentle though uneven walk below the edge, with a short ascent onto the edge and a short steep descent near the end of the walk.
2. Birchen Edge Stroll
Distance & time: 3.5km, 1¼ hours approx
Description: Amble through atmospheric woodlands, explore fascinating landscape heritage and absorb breathtaking moorland views.
Terrain: Gentle ascent and descents on uneven ground, sometimes following narrow trodden paths and crossing stiles.

3. Clod Hall Stride
Distance & time: 7km, 2 ½ hours approx
Description: Stride out across moorland landscapes, explore wooded valleys and take in breathtaking moorland views.
Terrain: Gentle ascent and descents on uneven and sometimes boggy ground, sometimes following narrow trodden paths and crossing stiles.

Ideal for viewing the red deer rut from September to early November
4. White Edge Meadow Amble
Distance & time: 2.5 km, 45 mins approx
Description: Amble around White Edge Meadows, step out across moorland landscapes and take in the dramatic Peak District views.
Terrain: Gentle ascent and descents on uneven ground, sometimes boggy in places and following off-track trodden paths.
5. White Edge Trig Point Saunter
Distance & time: 3.5 km, 1 ¼ hours approx
Description: Saunter up to White Edge trig point, absorb breathtaking views of urban Sheffield in contrast with rural Peak District.
Terrain: Steep ascent onto and gentle descent off of White Edge, uneven pathways and sometimes boggy in places.

6. Three Edges Stride
Distance & time: 9.5 km, 3 ¼ hours approx
Description: Stride out and absorb the captivating views from the trio of edges, White Edge, Froggatt Edge and Curbar Edge.
Terrain: Short though steep ascent and descent onto and off of White Edge with undulating rocky paths in between and along Curbar and Froggatt Edges.
From Shillito Wood car park
7. Hewetts Bank Saunter
Distance & time: 2 km, 40 mins approx
Description: Saunter along windswept landscapes and explore wooded valleys and gently falling valley streams.
Terrain: Short undulating walk with one steep descent off Hewitts Bank and a short but steep ascent back to the car park.
8. Ramsley Moor Stroll
Distance & time: 4 km, 1 ¼ hours approx
Description: Stroll through atmospheric woodlands alive with bird song and amble along gently falling valley streams.
Terrain: Following tracks and paths, muddy in places. Uneven ground with one short and steep ascent and descent.

9. Ramsley & Big Moor Stride
Distance & time: 8 km, 2 ¾ hours approx
Description: Saunter through wooded valleys and stride out across open moorland landscapes discovering fascinating hints of the moorlands’ past.
Terrain: Following tracks and paths, muddy in places with stiles to cross.. Uneven ground and undulating landscape with one short and steep ascent and descent.
